Perennial, rhizomatous, 5-30 cm tall, decumbent to somewhat ascending, creeping, glabrous or so, succulent, branched herb, drying black. Leaves 1-7 x 0.5-2.7 cm, opposite, ovate to orbicular, rarely lanceolate or elliptic, crenate to dentate or serrulate, 11-19-toothed, or sometimes nearly entire, obtuse at apex and base, or occasionally narrowed at base, glabrous; petiole 1-5 mm long. Racemes axillary, opposite, 1-3 cm long, lax 3-30-flowered, glabrous; peduncle 0.5-1.5 cm long; pedicels 3-8 mm long, nearly patent; bracts 2-8 mm long. Calyx 4-lobed, lobes 2.5-4 mm long, lanceolate, ovate, glabrous. Corolla 4-8 mm across, 3-5 mm long, bluish to purplish. Stamens inserted. Capsule 3-4 x 3-5 mm, nearly orbicular, inconspicuously notched at apex, glabrous or so; style 1.5-2 mm long, exserted. Seeds numerous, flat to slightly convex on both sides, ellipsoid, yellowish.
