Perennial, appressed-woolly, hispid herb or shrublet, 20-80 cm. Stems more or less erect, simple or branching. Leaves 1-4 x 0.4-3 cm., petiolate, obovate-orbicular to ovate-rhombic, cuneate at base, coarsely dentate-serrate, upper surface green, hispid, often tomentose, lower surface densely white-woolly; stipules membranous, hispid at margin. Inflorescences subsessile, axillary, 1-4 in a cluster. Involucral bracts mostly 3-6 (rarely 2), up to 8 mm., lanceolate, silky-hispid. Perianth of staminate flowers with green, rather hispid, tomentose lobes. Ovary 1 or more in each inflorescence. Fl. January-August.
