Notes:
Ecology: High montane forest to shrubby páramo and humid puna; on shrubs and small trees. Elevation: 3000-4300 m (Venezuela: 3220-3440 m, Colombia: 3000-3300 m, Ecuador: 3250-4200 m, Peru: 4200-4300 m, Bolivia: 3770-3850 m). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes.
 
Ecología: Bosque montano alto a páramo arbustivo y puna húmeda; sobre arbustos y árboles pequeños. Elevación: 3000-4300 m (Venezuela: 3220-3440 m, Colombia: 3000-3300 m, Ecuador: 3250-4200 m, Perú: 4200-4300 m, Bolivia: 3770-3850 m). Distribución: Endémica para los Andes tropicales.
 
Zygodon fragilis is distinguished, as the specific name implies, by the typically fragile leaves with the distal portion of the leaf broken; this is an uncommen feature in Zygodon.
 
This species has been described and illustrated by Calabrese et al. (2003).
