Nat. Pflanzenfam. 1(3): 428. 1902. Aloina rigida (Hedw.) Limpr. var. obliquifolia (Müll. Hal.) Delgadillo, Bryologist 78: 264. 1975. Barbula obliquifolia Müll. Hal., Nuovo Giorn. Bot. Ital., n. ser. 5: 178. 1898. Type. China: Shaanxi (Schen-si), in monte Tui-kio-san, 1896, Giraldi s.n. (isotype H).
 
Plants very small, 1.0–3.0(–4.0) mm high. Stems simple, erect, loosely foliate. Leaves ca. 2 mm long, incurved or curved-contorted when dry, broadly ovate to ligulate, concave, gradually narrowed toward the apex, mucronate and open at the apex; margins nearly entire, incurved; costa excurrent, ending in a reddish awn; costal green filaments branched, 2–6 cells high, thin-walled, terminal cells conical; upper leaf cells transversely rectangular or elliptic, thick-walled; basal cells rectangular, thin-walled. Dioicous. Setae 10–15(–22) mm long, red below, yellowish brown above; capsules erect, yellowish brown, ovoid-cylindrical, 1.5–2.0(–2.4) mm long; annuli well developed, consisting of 1–2(–3) rows of cells, sometimes deciduous when mature; peristome teeth filiform, red, strongly twisted 2–3 times counterclockwise; opercula conical, rostrate. Spores spherical, nearly smooth.
