Plants small to medium-sized, 5–20 mm high, yellowish green above, reddish below, more or less glossy, in loose or dense tufts. Stems slender, often branched, sometimes with pyriform gemmae on rhizoids. Leaves oblong-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, clearly keeled, acuminate; margins narrowly recurved, entire or denticulate near the apex; costae ending just below the apex or percurrent; median leaf cells narrowly rhomboidal, 54–94 µm × 11–15 µm; marginal cells not or indistinctly differentiated; apical cells shorter; basal cells rectangular. Dioicous. Setae 13–20 mm long; capsules oblong-cylindrical, inclined to pendulous, neck slender; peristome perfect, double; exostome teeth densely papillose; endostome segments well developed, yellowish hyaline, minutely papillose; basal membrane ca. 1/2 the length of the teeth; cilia 2.
