Plants very small, ca. 5 mm high, yellowish green above, dark brown below, not glossy, in dense tufts. Stems short, often branched by innovations. Leaves imbricate, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, up to 1.7 mm long; margins recurved throughout, entire, not clearly bordered, but marginal cells slightly narrower; costae brownish, excurrent into long awns; branch leaves triangular-lanceolate; median leaf cells narrowly rhombic to elongate-hexagonal, 30–60 µm × 9–16 µm, thin-walled; basal cells rectangular. Dioicous. Setae ca. 10–35 mm long, reddish brown; capsules inclined to pendulous, cylindrical, 1.2–2.0 mm long, reddish brown; neck expanded, thicker than urn; opercula conic, shortly rostrate; exostome teeth papillose, orange below, hyaline above; endostome segments shorter than the teeth, perforate; basal membrane ca. 1/2 the height of teeth; cilia 1–2, slightly shorter than the segments, nodose. Spores 8–13 µm in diameter, minutely papillose.
