Zygodon intermedius is characterized by elliptical-lanceolate leaves to 1.4 mm, acute apices, not or slightly decurrent, plane, entire margins, dioicous sexual condition, undifferentiated perichaetial leaves, setae to 10 mm, short cylindrical capsules to 1.5 mm, double peristome, rudimentary exostome, smooth endostome with low basal membrane and 8 segments. Zygodon coraniensis Herzog, collected by Herzog from Coranital, is a synonym (fide Calabrese 2006: 491). This species is described and illustrated by Calabrese (2006).
 
Zygodon intermedius se caracteriza por tener las hojas elíptico-lanceoladas hasta 1.4 mm, ápices agudos, márgenes enteros, planos, no o escasamente decurrentes, condición sexual dioica, hojas periqueciales indiferenciadas, setas hasta 10 mm, cápsulas corto cilíndricas hasta 1.5 mm, peristoma doble, exostoma rudimentario, endostoma liso con membrana basal baja y 8 segmentos. Zygodon coraniensis Herzog, colectado por Herzog en Coranital, es un sinónimo (fide Calabrese 2006: 491). Esta especie fue descrita e ilustrada por Calabrese (2006).
