Plants medium-sized to rather robust, usually 10–30 mm high, yellowish green, yellowish brown or reddish brown, in tufts. Stems branched, with more or less flat branches. Leaves sparse on stems, ligulate to oblong-ovate, clearly keeled, bluntly acute and often split at apex; margins plane, entire, serrulate near the apex; costae slender, ending below the apex; median leaf cells linear-rhomboidal, 85–106 µm × 8–13 µm, thin-walled, gradually becoming narrower at margins, with 2–5 rows of narrower, slightly thick-walled cells forming indistinct borders; upper cells broader, shorter. Dioicous. Setae 30–40 mm long; capsules horizontal to pendulous, ca. 4.5 mm long; peristome well developed; endostome segments perforate; cilia 2–3. Spores spherical, ca. 18 µm in diameter.
