Plants medium-sized to rather robust, 15–40 mm high, yellowish green or reddish brown, not glossy, in loose or rather dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched by innovations. Leaves appressed when dry, spreading when moist, distinctly broadly oblong-ovate, ovate-lanceolate to triangularly ovate, slightly cucullate above, ca. 3 mm long, acuminate at apex; margins plane or slightly recurved, sometimes slightly decurrent, bordered by 2–4 rows of linear cells, except at base; costae ending just below the apex or percurrent; median leaf cells 38–75 µm × 20–32 µm; basal cells enlarged, reddish brown, clearly distinct from the cells above. Dioicous. Setae 25–50 mm long; capsules pendulous, club-shaped to oblong-pyriform, ca. 4 mm long, deeply brownish; endostome segments well developed; cilia 2–3, appendiculate. Spores 18–24 µm in diameter, minutely roughened.
