In northern China, the capsules are up to 6.5 mm long, elongate-pyriform, clearly curved, and the mouth of capsule is oblique and asymmetric; while in southwestern China, the capsules are often short-pyriform, straight, and the mouth is not clearly oblique and symmetric. Bryum uliginosum is also characterized by multi-stratose leaf margins (2–3 layers).
