Plants medium-sized, ca. 20 mm high, dark brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect, rarely branched. Leaves appressed or somewhat twisted when dry, erect-spreading when moist, plane or slightly cucullate above, oblong-ovate, ovate-lanceolate to cordate, ca. 2 mm long; margins entire, recurved below; costae excurrent, ending in short awns; median leaf cells hexagonal or shortly rhombic, thin-walled or slightly thick-walled; marginal cells slightly narrower, borders not differentiated; basal cells rectangular. Dioicous. Sporophytes not seen.
