Notas
:
Carinta was published as a replacement name for Geophila D. Don, which was an illegitimate name at the time, because it was a later homonym. Later, the name Geophila D. Don was formally conserved, so it became legitimate, and the name Carinta is now rejected because it is based on the same type (Art. 14.4). At the time Carinta was published, there was confusion among authors about the identity and status of two names that apply the same species, Psychotria herbacea Jacq., which is the older and legitimate name, and Psychotria herbacea L. Many authors of the 19th and 20th century just used Linnaeus's illegitimate name for this species, but Wight correctly and explicitly used Jacquin's name in his combination in Carinta.
