Deciduous shrubs, unarmed. Buds ovoid with several scales. Leaves alternate, imparipinnate, petiolate and stipulate. Leaflets opposite, sessile and biserrate (occasionally serrate). Inflorescence a terminal panicle with small, linear-lanceolate bracts and bracteoles. Flowers numerous, small, bisexual, pedicellate. Hypanthium shallowly cupular. Disk adnate to hypanthium. Sepals 5, reflexed, persistent. Petals 5, ovate to orbicular, white or cream, imbricate in bud, soon deciduous. Stamens 15-50 inserted on the disk. Filaments glabrous, unequal in length, anthers dorsifixed. Stylodia terminal, subterminal or lateral; styles recurving after anthesis; stigmas capitate. Carpels 5, opposite sepals, connate at base, glabrous or subglabrous. Follicles 5, glabrous, much exserted from hypanthium, dehiscing along adaxial suture. Seeds several in each follicle, linear, almost as long as the follicle, slightly flattened and narrowly winged.
