General/Distribution: A monotypic genus, native of Mediterranean region and Canary Islands; widely introduced as an ornamental plant.

Erect shrub. Stem terete, grooved. Leaf absent or unifoliolate, exstipulate. Inflorescence a terminal raceme. Bract and bracteoles minute. Calyx split to the base adaxially, teeth minute. Corolla yellow. Vexillum longer than the wing and keel. Wing smaller than the beaked keel. Stamens monadelphous; alternate anthers short and versatile, alternately longer and basifixed. Ovary sessile, pubescent, many ovuled, style incurved, stigma oblong. Fruit compressed, glabrous.
