Erect to spreading herbs or undershrubs with opposite, entire leaves. Flowers showy, solitary or in lax trichotomously branched paniculate cymes, pink or rose coloured, bilabiate; bracts linear or ovate, longer than the calyx; bracteoles paired, linear-lanceolate, shorter than the bracts. Calyx deeply 5-loed, lobes linear-lanceolate, all equal. Corolla hairy, tube slender, twisted, as long as or hardly longer than the 2-lipped limb, lobes imbricate in but; upper lip shorter than the lower, subentire; lower lip shortly 3-lobed. Stamens 2, attached to corolla throat, free, equal, well exserted, filaments hairy below, anthers dithecous, muticous, lobes rotund, unequal, superposed, staminodes absent. Ovary bilocular, each locule 2-ovuled; style filiform, stigma ± 2-lobed. Capsule oblong-ellipsoid, stiped, 4-seeded, ± pubescent. Seeds compressed, ovoid-orbicular, papillate, glochidiate or smooth, without hygroscopic hairs.
