Shrubs or small trees, some of a climbing habit. Leaves alternate, entire. Flowers in axillary or terminal cymes, usually fragrant. Calyx campanulate or tubular, 5-toothed. Corolla salver-or trumpet shaped, 5-lobed, much exceeding the calyx in length; tube cylindric. Stamens 5, included. Ovary bilocular, with many ovules on an axile placenta. Fruit a berry. Seeds few.
