Annual, unarmed herbs with elliptic-oblong to linear, entire leaves. Capitula heterogamous with few-florets, solitary, long peduncled. Phyllaries multiseriate, imbricate, ovate-lanceolate to ovate to narrowly obovate, strongly appressed. Receptacle flat, beset with narrow, membranous, free bristles. Florets white, all tubular, actinomorphic, outermost female, inner florets bisexual. Corolla tube of female florets with 3-5-lobed limb; corolla tube of inner bisexual flowers smaller, thickened in fruit with 5, upright limb lobes. Anther filaments glabrous, united above. Style shortly 2-lobed, apically minutely hairy. Cypselas of female florets almost flat, obovate, glabrous, dorsiventrally compressed, ventrally keeled, with finely serrulate, apically 2 lateral wings prolonged into horns; cypselas of bisexual florets obconical, basally villose, finely sulcate. Pappus of inner cypselas composed of 8 – 10 (–15), lanceolate-pinnulate scales; pappus absent in outer cypselas.
A monotypic genus, distributed in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Kazakhastan, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
