Perennial herbs. Leaves cordate or oblong-oblanceolate, petiolate with sheathing leaf base, entire or sinuate-toothed. Capitula solitary or few to many, simple or compound racemose, heterogamous radiate or homogamous discoid. Involucre tubular or campanulate, calyculate, phyllaries uniseriate, rarely biseriate. Receptacle flat, naked. Ray florets ligulate, female; disc florets tubular, 5-lobed, bisexual. Anthers auriculate-caudate. Style acute or obtuse, papillate or with lateral sweeping hairs. Cypselas ribbed, glabrous. Pappus bristles 0.75-10 mm long, white or reddish brown.
