nom. illeg. superfl. IPNI: "Cereus sect. Cephalophori Lem. (Feb 1838) included 2 syntype species, viz., Cereus senilis Haw. and Cereus columna-trajani Karw. ex Pfeiff.; subsequently, Cephalocereus Pfeiff. (Mai 1838) and Pilocereus Lem. (Feb 1839) were independently proposed as new names at generic rank for Cereus sect. Cephalophori, and both generic names included Cereus senilis and C. columna-trajani; therefore, Pilocereus was superfluous when published (see Shenzhen Code Art. 52.2)"
