Perennial with woody base, erect, branched, glabrous, glaucous. Leaves simple, oblong-elliptic, entire, ± fleshy, sessile or subsessile. Racemes lax, flexuose, ebracteate. Flowers large, whitish or pale lilac, shortly pedicelled. Sepals subequal, erect; inner hardly saccate at the base. Petals about twice as long (or more) as the sepals, narrowly oblanceolate, apex rounded. Nectar glands minute, lateral semi-annular, middle somewhat conical. Stamens 6; filaments linear; anthers linear, acute or slightly apiculate. Ovary 2-4-ovuled, elliptical, 2-parted; stigma bilobed with deccurrent lobes. Siliculae biarticulated, broadly wigged; lower part stalk-like, short but partly or entirely included within the wing, sterile, bilocular with valves distinctly mid-veined and dehiscent; upper part large, flattened, broadly winged (wing broader than the locule), glabrous, indehiscent, bilocular, coriaceous with often notched apex; locules ovoid or ellipsoid with or without a mid-vein on the valves, 1-2-seeded; septum thin, not veined; seeds small, ellipsoid, pendulous, brown, finely or obscurely reticulated; cotyledons condulipcate.
