Climbing or trailing perennial herb, rarely erect subshrub. Leaf pinnately trifoliolate,; stipels and stipules present. Inflorescence racemose, flowers paired or whorled or flowers in axillary fascicles. Calyx 5-lobed or the upper 2 lobes united and then 4-lobed. Vexillum not appendaged or auriculate; glabrous or subglabrous. Stamens monadelphous or diadelphous, 9+1, vexillary stamen free, alternate anthers small and sterile or absent. Ovary multiovulate, often with tuft of hairs at the apex, style short or absent, stigma capitate. Fruit linear, c. 8-seeded; style base forming a right-angled hook at the apex.
