Notes:
The Asian sp. A. paeoniifolius (syn. A. campanulatus) is widely cultivated for its edible tubers, including in Madagascar (Ambanja, Bogner 183), and has become naturalized in some parts of the world, including in the Comoros - but with no such records from Madagascar. The total estimated of species is currently 9 but the genus is under-collected, and more research in the limestone tsingy is likely to reveal additional spp., and the limits of the first sp. to be described from Madagascar, A. hildebrandtii are far from clear.
