Shrublets or herbs. Stems branching, the young ones herbaceous. Leaves opposite, petiolate, simple, entire to incised, pallmately and pinnately veined. Panicles composed of whorls or umbels. Bracts small. Flowers hermaphrodite, without involucre. Perianth more or less funnel-shaped with 5-lobed petaloid limb and persistent tube. Stamens 2-5, free; anthers 2-celled. Ovary 1-celled, 1-ovuled, with style as long as or longer than stamens. Anthocarps more or less cylindrical to clavate, obsoletely ribbed, with stalked or sessile conspicuous warts at apex.
