Description Small trees or shrubs, erect or prostrate. Leaves alternate. Flowers sessile, 5- merous, perfect and staminate in the same inflorescences, densely aggregate into pseudo-capitula. Petals absent. Stamens usually 10, sometimes fewer by abortion, anthers dorsifixed, versatile. Disk intrastaminal. Ovules 2, pendulous. Fruits (pseudocarps) laterally compressed, 2-winged, densely aggregated in a cone-like mass.
Habit trees shrubs
Note A genus consisting of two littoral species, often constituents of mangrove swamps, one in tropical and subtropical America and Africa, the other in Somali- land and Arabia.
