The Rubiaceae genus Matthiola L. is a formally rejected name, in favor of a speciose genus of Brassicaceae. The type of Matthiola L., Matthiola scabra, is today included in Guettarda s. str. That genus was previously circumscribed more broadly and also controversial in circumscription, so the name Matthiola L. has been used for species of various Guettardeae genera.
