General/Distribution: A genus of about 30 species, distributed mainly in India, Japan and United States; represented in Pakistan by 2 cultivated species.

Mostly woody climbers or shrubs. Leaves opposite, penninerved. Inflorescence axillary or terminal cymes, Flowers large showy, white or purplish. Calyx short, 5-lobed, glandular or scaly within at the base. Corolla rotate or salverform, tube cylindrical, swollen at the middle, constricted at the mouth, 5-lobed, lobes oblong, twisted to the left. Stamens 5, attached in middle of corolla tube, included or exserted; filament broad; anthers united with stigma. Disc mostly annular, carpels free apocarpous; style short; stigma columnar. Follicles elongate, not beaked.
