General/Distribution: About 22 species mostly Mexican; represented by 2 species in West Pakistan.

Erect, prickly annual herbs, with yellow latex. Leaves pinnatifid-dentate. Flowers terminal, solitary, bright yellow rarely whitish or white, pedunculate. Sepals 2-3, free, valvate, caducous. Petals 4-6, obovate, caducous. Stamens indefinite; filaments filiform; anthers basifixed. Ovary ovate-oblong, unilocular; ovules indefinite, born on 4-7 parietal placentas. Style very short or obscure; stigma radiating, 4-7 lobed; lobes opposite the placentas. Capsule ellipsoid, prickly, dehiscing by 3-6, short valves at the top. Seeds numerous, spherical, pitted with oily endosperm.
