General/Distribution: A genus with about 35 species in the Old World Tropics, locally represented by 1 species.

Perennial herbs or shrubs, erect or prostrate. Leaf pinnately 3-9-foliolate, stipels present, stipules free lateral, persistent. Inflorescence terminal racemes or panicles. Bracts ovate or lanceolate. Calyx 5-lobed, 3 lower lobes longer than the upper 2 (often appearing to be lower due to resupination). Corolla yellowish or purplish. Vexillum narrowed into a claw. Wing adhering to the keel. Stamens diadelphous, 9+1, anthers uniform. Ovary sessile or stipitate, 2-many ovuled. Fruit mostly enclosed in the persistent calyx, subsessile, constricted between the seeds, segments ovate, inflated, 1-seeded and indehiscent.
