It seems unlikely that H. peregrinum, based on a collection from Madagascar, truly represents a native species endemic to Madagascar as described by Brown (1883), but rather a second introduced (and possibly naturalised) species in addition to H. coronarium. As well as the type (Parker s.n.) at K, a second more recent collection has been associated with this name (Gentry 11383) at MO. However the identity of these specimens requires further study and until new information is available, the species is retained as a Malagasy endemic as originally described by Brown.
Brown (1883) also referred to H. flavescens Carey ex Roscoe, an Indian sp., having also been collected by Parker in Madagascar. This species is sometimes grown as an ornamental, it is not known if it has become naturalised in Madagascar.
