General/Distribution: A small genus with 6 species distributed in tropical South Africa, Arabia, India and Pakistan. Represented in Pakistan by one species.

Unarmed shrubs, scandent or climbing by means of tendrils. Leaves alternate, stipulate. Inflorescence of axillary, umbellate cymes, on long slender peduncles. Flowers greenish. Calyx 5-lobed, lobes lacerate, ovate, crenate or acuminate tube broadly obconical. Petals 5, inserted on margin of the epigynous disc, hooded. Ovary trilocular; style short, 3-fid; stigma more or less recurved. Fruit coriaceous, ovate to globose, with 3 cocci, each one-seeded.
