Genus Hemidiodia Schum.

Note TYPE: Spermacoce ocim- ifolia Willd. = Hemidiodia ocimifolia (Willd.) Schum.
Description Perennial herbs, often woody and profusely branching from the base. Leaves narrow, the veins conspicuous; stipules adnate to the petioles, forming a setif- erous sheath. Inflorescences axillary, epedunculate, the flowers fasciculate. Flowers with the calycine lobes 4; corolla funnelform, the lobes 4, valvate; sta- mens attached near the mouth, exserted. Fruits of 2 mericarps separating at maturity from a median septum, opening basally.
Habit herbs
Distribution extends from Mexico to South America. It also occurs in the West Indies and in Malaya.
