Suckering herb, sometimes weakly bulbous at base. Leaves spirally arranged. Inflorescence terminal, erect or drooping, with a cluster of flowers beneath the bracts. Flowers becoming unisexual by abortion, the distal functioning as the male, the proximal as the female.
