Sessile spikelets terete; callus pungent; lower glume coriaceous, convex, sometimes longitudinally grooved, obtuse; lower floret reduced to a hyaline lemma; upper lemma stipitiform, passing directly into a hairy awn; palea absent; caryopsis lanceolate, channelled on one side.
