General/Distribution: A small genus of c. 19 species, distributed in Cental Asia, Mongolia, China (Xingiang, Xizang), Himalayas, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Represented in Pakistan by 3 species.

Perennial, erect or ascending, pubescent to occasionally densely tomentose herbs beset with bifurcate and simple hairs. Leaves ± rosulate below and alternate above, pinnately much twice dissected. Capitula homogamous, discoid, numerous in dense corymbs or glomerules rarely fewer or solitary. Involucre vase-like, phyllaries irregularly 3-4-seriate, imbricate, broadly dark-brown margined. Receptacle flat to convex, glabrous, usually distinctly alveolate. Flowers yellow, bisexual, with 5-lobed, tubular corollas abruptly dilated above middle part. Anthers tailed below, apically subobtuse appendaged, filaments thickened above. Style branches linear, truncate. Cypselas homomorphic, almost terete-conical, 5-8-ribbed, occasionally with resin canals and ± distinct rim. Pappus absent.
