43. Nothocalais (A. Gray) Greene
Four species,
western U.S., Canada.
Chambers (1957)
argued for the segregation of the four species of Nothocalais from the
large, polymorphic genus Microseris D. Don, based on their morphological
cohesiveness and unique combination of character states. Subsequent molecular
studies (Jansen et al., 1991; Whitton et al., 1995) have reinforced the notion
that Nothocalais is closely related to the segregates Agoseris
Raf. and Uropappus Nutt., which each should be kept separate from Microseris.
