General/Distribution: A genus with about 7 species, distributed in Tropical and S. Africa, Mada¬gascar, tropical Asia, Australia.

Shrubs or small trees with or without spines. Leaves bipinnate, rachis glan¬dular at insertion of pinnae, each pinna with small and many paired leaflets. Inflorescence axillary, solitary or clustered spikes. Flowers small, bisexual and yellow in the upper half of spike, while neuter and white rose or purplish with long filiform staminodia in the lower half. Sepals 5, connate. Petals 5, connate at the base, oblong, valvate. Stamens 10, all fertile in bisexual flowers, distinct, slightly exserted, anthers glandular. Ovary sessile or shortly stipitate. Fruits clus¬tered, linear or narrowly oblong, coriaceous, twisted at maturity, indehiscent or opening irregularly. Seeds smooth, compressed, ovoid to ellipsoid.
