About 100 recognized species, distributed from India and Sri Lanka to Myanmar, Thailand, Indo-China, China, Korea, Japan, Malesia and the Solomon Islands (From: Kostermans 1957; Rowher 1993; van der Werff 2001.)

Taxonomic notes:
Actinodaphne
is a member of the
Litsea
complex in the Laureae, and there are strong indications that it is not monophyletic (From: Li et al. 2006).
