Trees. Bark resinous and scented. Leaves compound, alternate, with several to many leaflets. Male catkins lateral and solitary; tepals 2-5; stamens 8-40; Female flowers 1-3, in solitary or terminal spikes; cupule adnate to the perianth and the ovary; tepals 3-5, margin irregular and dentate; ovary unilocu¬lar; style short; stigmas recurved to spreading, fimbriate to plumose from the base. Drupe with woody and rugose endocarp. Seed with two large ruminate cotyledons.
