General/Distribution: A small genus comprising 34 spceies, mainly segregated from Artemisia, and distributed in China, Central Asia, Japan, Afghanistan, Pakistan. Represented in our area by rwo species.

Perennial herbs or subshrubs with alternate, palmati- or pinnatisect, lobed, serrate or rarely entire leaves. Capitula small, numerous, disciform, in corymbs or rarely solitary. Involucre vase-shaped, phyllaries irregularly 3-4-seriate, imbricate, membranous margined. Receptacle convex to obtusely conical, bald. Marginal female florets uniseriate, with ± dorsally compressed, stiffly 2-4-toothed corolla tube. Disc-florets with sessile glanded, 5-lobed, abruptly broadened in upper half, glabrous corolla tube. Anthers with ± triangular terminal appendage. Style branches linear, truncate. Cypselas obovoid, inconspicuously 5-6-ribbed, thin-walled, generally with myxogenic cells in rows. Pappus absent.
