General/Distribution: Probably monotypic. A high alpine genus, often growing in screen. A clear relative of Lamium but very different in habit. With superficial resem-blance to the unrelated Eriophyton wallichianum Benth. from Tibet, Nepal to Bhutan.

Perennial herbs, lanate-tomentose or tomentose, with decumbent ascending rather sturdy stems. Leaves large, thick-textured, rhomboid. Flowers few or several, in axils of upper leaves and partly hidden by them, pink to purplish. Bracts small. Calyx scarcely bilabiate, tubular-campanulate, large, with 5 subequal teeth. Corolla bilabiate; upper lip galeate, emarginate; lower lip 3-lobed with a very large spreading median lobe; tube long, straight, without an internal annulus, somewhat widened at throat. Stamens 4, didynamous, included under upper corolla lip or slightly exserted; thecae bilocutar, divergent, hairy. Style equally bibbed. Nutlets triquetrous, truncate.
