Description
|
Dioecious, tendriled vines; stems 5- to 10-sulcate. Leaves alternate, petiolate, cordate; tendrils 2-branched at apex. Staminate flowers minute, paniculate, axil- lary; calyx 5-lobate; corolla rotate, deeply 5-lobate; stamens 3, free, the filaments short, inserted on the hypanthium wall, the anthers straight, 2 anthers bilocular, 1 anther unilocular. Pistillate flowers disposed as the staminate flowers; calyx and corolla as in the staminate flowers, the ovary ovoid, uniloculate, the ovule 1, pendulous, the styles 3, linear, spreading, the stigmas linear. Fruits globose, fleshy, indehiscent, 1-seeded; seed spherical, emarginate, the testa crustaceous, rugose.
