Perennial herb. Bulb with fibrous tunic. Principal bulb dies after fruiting, but plant remains perennial by producing many small bulbils. Stem not rooting above bulb. Cauline leaves, alternate, long-petiolate, cordate, reticulately veined, convolute in bud, marcescent. Flowers 3-20 in a raceme, funnel shaped, greenish to creamy white. Tepals 6. Stamens 6, anthers dorsifixed, versatile. Style with 3 stigmatic crests, elongates after anthesis. Capsule loculicidal, lobes with prominent, inward-pointing marginal teeth. Seeds many, winged.
