Annotation: Plectronia was based on a type with two elements, one a species of Oliniaceae (APG II: Penaeaceae) and the other a species of Rubiaceae. The name Plectronia L. was lectotypified based on the Oliniaceae element, and then was formally rejected in favor of Olinia. The Rubiaceae element was excluded from the type, so the name "Plectronia" as a member of the Rubiaceae is not validly published. Although numerous species were described in "Plectronia (Rubiaceae)", these now need transfer to other, validly published Rubiaceae genera, and in the meantime technically they belong to the genus Plectronia (Oliniaceae/Pennaeaceae), nom. rej., where they are in correctly classified.
