Notes: This family has been separated until recently, and its systematic position and relationships have not been clear. It was originally described as a genus of Rubiaceae, but later separated as its own family. It has been placed variously in Myrtales, Rosales, Cornales, and Gentianales. Molecular sequence data shows that Dialypetalanthus does belong to Rubiaceae, where it falls in the tribe Condamineae in the subfamily Ixoroideae (Bremer & Eriksson, 2009) and is morphologically anomalous in its free petals and numerous stamens arranged in two whorls with the filaments fused at the base into a basal ring (Piesschaert et al., 1997).
