POLYGALACEAE (milkwort family)

Nineteen to 23 genera, about 925 species, nearly worldwide.

A few genera of Polygalaceae contain species that are cultivated as ornamentals or are used medicinally. The genus Xanthophyllum Roxb. (sometimes segregated into its own family), which occurs from southeastern Asia to Australia, contains some species used for dyes and seed oils.
