Notes:
This species has a somewhat low villous habit, obovate to elliptic leaves that are attenuate at the bases, cymose rather congested inflorescences, white to pink corollas with tubes 4-5 mm long and equal to or shorter than the lobes, and ellipsoid red fruits. In general it is similar to several species with ant vesicles borne on the petioles, in particular Hoffmannia formicaria, but Hoffmannia dwyeri lacks ant vescicles or has only incompletely rolled leave bases or petiole wings that are free, rather than fused to form a chamber.
