Notas : This species is charcterized by its dense tomentellous pubescence; its rather large and broad leaves that lack domatia; its short triangular stipules that are shortly united around the stem, with the upper parts deciduous leaving a well developed scar or base; its terminal, subcapitate to sparingly branched inflorescences with well developed involucral bracts enclosing the groups of flowers; its well developed dentate calyx limbs; its rather large pilose corollas, with the tubes ca. 34 mm long; and its medium-sized fruits. It is similar in several features to C. insignis of Amazonian Brazil, which has smaller narrower bracts.
Distribución : This species is found in wet forest vegetation at 250-350 m in Ecuador and northwestern Peru.
