Notes :

Borhidi separated Exostema lucidum first as a species, and then after McDowell (1995) synonymized it, as a variety. Following McDowell, this taxon is not recognized here; McDowell noted that the only difference between these taxa is that the single collection of Exotema lancifolium has domatia on the leaves while the other specimens lack these. 

Distribution : Humid to dry vegetation on limestone, serpentine, and granite, 50-400 m, eastern Cuba (Guantánamo, Holguín).
