Notes:
This species is accepted based on Lachenaud et al. (2022). It is characterized by its medium-sized leaves, ovate to ligulate stipules with glands near the top, pedunculate lax few-flowered inflorescences, rather well developed calyx limbs, somewhat small corollas. Lachenaud et al. noted that its original circumscription included two specimens representing two species. They treated the identity of this species based on its type, and classified its paratype provisionally in Rudgea graciliflora. Rudgea ayangannensis is similar to some montane Rudgea species of the Andes.
