Comment/Acknowledgements: A plant of higher altitude, grows between 10000-14500 ft, near lakes, glaciers and water courses.

A dwarf, perennial rhizomatous, 10-40 cm tall herb with usually single stem or sometimes branched into 2-3, covered with white cottony hairs. Basal leaves long-petiolate, oblaneolate, 8-10 x 1-1.5 cm, lyrate-pinnatifid, lobes irregularly dentate to incised, terminal lobe large, obtuse, ovate-lanceolate, cottony beneath, sparsely so above; cauline leaves narrowly oblong-lanceolate, irregularly pinnatifid, auricled and semi-amplexicaul; upper leaves smaller, linear-lanceolate to linear. Capitula heterogamous, radiate, 2-6 in terminal corymb, 1.5-2 cm across. Peduncles stout, 2-7 cm long, sparsely to densely cottony with 2-3 linear, subulate bracteoles. Involucre campanulate, c. 8 mm across; phyllaries 16-21, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, c. 8-15 mm long, scarious margined, densely hairy; outer phyllaries 6-8, small, 2.5-4 mm long, subulate. Ray-florets yellow, 16-21, 14-15 mm long including c. 4 mm long tube, 4-5-veined, 3-dentate at the apex, c. 2.5 mm broad. Disc-florets many, yellow, 10-12 mm long. Anthers basally obtusely auriculate. Style 2-lobed, lobe 11 mm. Cypsela cylindrical, ribbed, c. 2.5-3 mm long, glabrous. Pappus white, c. 7 mm long.
